Dietitians in oncology

The Oncology Specialist group of the Dietitians Association of Sweden (DRF) was formed in 1987. In 1988 the group changed its name to Dietitians in Oncology (DIO) and is now a registered non-profit organisation. We are a group of ten dietitians, from Lund in the far south of Sweden to Umeå in the far north, who meet between two and four times per year. Our aim is to spread information to dietitians and other professions, by various means, about the nutritional problems that cancer patients can experience and how these problems can be helped. We also work to develop nutritional guidelines for cancer patients and to produce patient information booklets and teaching material.

In 1990 we initiated the first conference for Nordic Oncology Dietitians and since then similar conferences have been held regularly. These conferences have been attended by approximately 20 dietitians from the Nordic countries.
